Brussels, Belgium (TFC) – The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has decided to engage in a build up in the Eastern parts of the alliance to combat a perceived threat from Russia. This is to reinforce its position in supporting the US-backed coup in Ukraine. The members of the alliance are pulling no punches and are not attempting to hide the move, which leads analysts to believe that the build up is a replay of the type of brinkmanship that occurred throughout the first Cold War.
The Polish Defence Minister Tomasz Siemoniak was standing shoulder to shoulder with NATO’s Secretary General when he said:
“After tens of years of peace, that peaceful period after the Cold War is now over.”
Normally, the citizens of the West could count on this being just another example of NATO heads attempting to justify the organization’s continued existence with militant rhetoric. However, the rhetoric didn’t end there and was followed up by action. He continued his speech with a statement that should warn Americans of an impending barrage of anti-Russian propaganda.
“I think it’s a task for all of us to persuade the public that they should be ready to do more before it’s too late.”
It’s going to be a tough task to convince the populations of member nations to prepare for yet another war. The major contributing members of NATO have been steadily involved in conflicts for about 15 years. The war-hungry US defense industry has continually been leading the western nations into war after war. It is currently attempting to push its populace into a war in Syria and Iraq, as well gearing up to engage China in the questionably defined “Asian Pivot.” If the US contractors can push the American population into another war, the US will inevitably drag the rest of NATO into the engagement.
General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg followed the Polish statements by stating that NATO was “implementing the biggest reinforcement of our collective defences since the end of the Cold War.”
It isn’t all talk. The build up of military forces has already begun. Last February, NATO began building a rapid deployment force of 5000 ground troops that can assist any NATO nation near Russia within 48 hours. Tuesday, the announcement was made that over 60 tank platoons will be re-positioned in the Eastern part of the alliance. Today, NATO leaders are deciding which air, sea, and special forces units will be assigned to the “spearhead” force.
The term “spearhead” is typically used to designate the leading units in an invasion.
This build up, when combined with the other military escalations sought by the US, forces the population to entertain the possibility of all of the wars occurring simultaneously. If the United States becomes embroiled in Syria and Iraq again, while attempting to deal with China, what assistance could it possibly offer the allies that its brinkmanship is placing in harm’s way?
